Michigan Golf Outings

In this difficult economy, charitable golf outings are not immune to financial difficulties. To assist charities and individuals who might not have the broad exposure that WeekendWarriorGolfer.com does, we are proud to introduce a Golf Outing page to help promote events and local agencies. Not that you need an excuse to play golf, but why not participate in a few charitable outings this year! Golf outings are a great way to meet and network with exciting new people, and a possible tax deduction. We are contacting dozens of charities and agencies, so check back often in the next few weeks as we compile our list.

GTR and the 54 hole challenge

The Grand Traverse Resort is offering an excellent promotion called Golf Your Daylights Out from June 19th to June 28th tocelebrate the longest days of the year. One special low price and you are able to play as many holes as you can in a day! We recently played all three Grand Traverse Resort courses (The Bear, The Wolverine, and Spruce Run) for a truly memorable day. . .

Here are our tweets (if we had used Twitter that day):

5:00 AM- Up too early, but a necessary evil to make our tee time at The Bear. We accidently two track it and bottom out VW’s car. Profane language starts early on this overcast day.

6:21 AM- We check in and are told we have the tee. I hate to show up late, but luckily the tee sheet is open for a half hour after us.

6:29 AM- I split the fairway on The Bear. VW nods and launches one himself. The day of golf begins.

8:14 AM- We stop by the halfway house for what feels like a pit stop. VW gets a coffee and watches the coffee maker spew excess coffee all over the place. Feeling sorry for the lady working there, he generously tips her. Who says he has no heart?

9:56 AM- We are walking off the beautiful 18th hole at The Bear. Fun round, which I took by a shot.

11:44 AM- I thought The Bear was the course with all the bunkers. I am finding The Wolverine is very sandy too!

1:15 PM- Chip in birdie on the 16th has me gaining some ground on VW.

1:35 PM- VW makes short work of the par 5 at The Wolverine to birdie 18 and take the round by a stroke.

2:01 PM- I like the 1st holes, as I start my last round at Spruce Run with another up and down for par. I am hanging in by playing scrappy and somewhat consistent golf.

3:33 PM- Walking to the 12th green with my putter and I realize my mind is starting to wander. Almost 48 holes complete and mind fatigue is setting in.

4:46 PM- Hole 54 ends the same way as hole 1, a par. VW bogeys but still takes the round and day by yes. . . 1 stroke. I guess we are evenly matched. Three great courses (reviews to follow) in 10 hours 17 minutes! The rain stayed away and we even joke about how there is plenty of daylight left to get in another 18, but neither of us really wants to swing a club again for a couple of days.

The Golf Your Daylights Out promotion goes on for another week. If you live in the area or can run up to Traverse City for a day or two, we highly recommend it!
